A Korean singer PSY has become a world star with his song ‘Gangnam style’ and people around the world has begun to wonder where ‘Gangnam’ is.

‘Gang’ of Gangnam means a river and ‘Nam’ means south.

The river in Seoul is Han River, so the original meaning of Gangnam is the South region of the Han River.

From about 600 years ago, the Northern Seoul was a capital of Korea.
> GOOD but..... About 600 years ago, Northern Seould was the capital of Korea.
So, ‘Gangbuk; the opposite region of Gangnam’ is an old downtown which has (a) the city hall, several ancient palaces and historical heritages.
> GREAT!
On the other hand, Gangnam just has developed about 40 years ago.
> On the other hand, Gangnam has just been developed about 40 years ago.
So, its history is relatively shorter than Gangbuk.
> OK
Nowadays, Gangnam has been developed more than Gangbuk.
> Gangnam is now more developed than Gangbuk.
However, Gangbuk is also still busy and important.
> However, this is not to say that Gangbuk is no longer busy or importnat becaused it still is busy and definitely important. :-)
